Web push notification is new RSS feed & like the old times as RSS feed, now we are subscribing to blog updates using browser push notifications. Many of you might not be knowing the technical term, so here is an image that shows what web push notification looks like:

Web push notification example

Push notifications are new way for readers to stay updated with their favorite blogs.I have talked about this in detail here.  Since it’s easy to subscribe to browser based push notifications, sometime we overwhelm ourselves by subscribing to too many blogs updates via Push notifications. Things get really bad when you open your system after 2-3 days & you are bombarded with too many updates. If it hasn’t happened to you, it will certainly happen in the coming days.

This is why this guide will help you to disable push notifications on Chrome browser. You can either disable desktop based push notifications for all the sites or for selective site. Do remember, this kind of notifications can be disabled only from your end & no need to contact the website owner for this. To make it easier for you to understand the process of blocking chrome push notifications, I have added a video at the later part of this tutorial.

Disabling Chrome Web push notifications: Tutorial

Here is how you can get started.

In Chrome browser, Open a new tab and type:

chrome://settings/content

(You will see a screen as shown below). Now scroll down on the pop-up to notifications part.

Here you can either block push notifications for all websites at one go by selecting “Do not allow any site to show notifications” or you can click on manage exceptions & block any site from sending you push notifications or simply click on the “x” sign to remove it.

When you click on “X” sign to remove the domain from the exception list, you will be again prompted to subscribe when you visit the site again. If you don’t want to get the prompt & don’t want to receive chrome desktop push notifications as well, use drop down & instead of allow select block.

Here is a video tutorial that shows how you can turn off Chrome desktop push notifications.
